Band Practice Volunteer Responsibilities

1) Volunteers need to be at school at least ½ hour before practice to help setup water coolers, etc.

2) Ice and water is in cafeteria kitchen, ask Mr. Enloe to unlock kitchen door.  You will need one 10 gallon cooler of ice water and 5 to 7 gallons of Gatorade/ice.  When it is extremely hot/humid, make 10 & 5 gallon coolers of ice water and a 10 gallon cooler of Gatorade.   Gatorade is stored under the printer in the kitchen.

3) One volunteer needs to be outside at practice site once the students go outside to monitor any medical or other emergencies even if the water carts are not outside.   If the students are in two locations outdoors, at least one parent should be with each group.   Check on Colorguard, Drumline and Pit regularly if in different locations.

4) Depending on weather conditions, etc. carts should have water and Gatorade coolers, paper cups, first aid back pack, snacks, bowls to distribute snacks, water pitchers, cooler with soaked towels, sunscreen, bug spray, hand sanitizer, paper towels, trash bags, duck tape, tables.   Additional supplies are in lower kitchen cabinets, cups and extra coolers are in uniform room.

5) Set up water stations at times designated by breaks listed on practice schedule on white board in band room. Clean up after breaks.

6) If very hot, prepare extra water and Gatorade for breaks every half hour and before/after practice, use canopies on practice field for shade and fill up small blue cooler with white wash clothes soaked in ice water.   Canopies are stored in equipment room on top shelf.

7) Clean out coolers, pitchers and wipe down tables after each practice.  Restock supplies (expect food) in yellow carts. Store yellow carts in tuba room during camp and in kitchen during the school year.   Trash needs to be put in dumpster.   If white towels are used, a volunteer needs to bring used/wet towels home to be washed and brought back by next practice.

8) Need to have one CPR certified or first aid trained person at each practice.
