April Band News
Congratulations Mary Goodnight (Senior - Clarinet) and John McHenry (Sophomore - Tuba). They were selected for NC All-State Honors Band, only the 2nd and 3rd students from MCHS to earn that honor! Mary and John traveled to the NC School of the Arts in Winston Salem in April to attend a clinic and perform with the 9/10 and 11/12 Honors Bands. Congratulations also to Ben Johnson and Jason Phillips for participating in the WCPSS All-Star Marching Band on April 26th. The band (a collection of county high school band students) marched and performed in the Raleigh “Salute to Our Troops” Parade. Band Yard Sale – thanks to the many volunteers (parents and students) that participated in the yard sale - the band earned over $1,000 as a result of the many generous donations and hard work of our volunteers! Thanks particularly to Vera Morris and Denise Admunson for organizing the event, and to Jay and Sandy Phillips, Connie Harshman, Wendie Redding, Tracey Stowe and many others for sorting the donations the night before. Thanks also to the many band parents who dragged the leftovers to Goodwill and to Susan Morgan for selling some of the leftover "stuff" a few weeks later! We received a lot of positive feedback from the community and everyone involved thought the event was a huge success.
The band calendar for the 2008/09 school year is now on the website. Please remember that some dates are still to be confirmed. Calendar updates will be emailed as things change. Donna Holder has volunteered to put next year’s dates into “calendar” format so both formats will be available and posted on the band website. Thank you Donna!
Upcoming Events:
Open House – May 15th There will be a band Open House on May 15th from 7 to 9 pm. This event is for rising freshman and others who are interested in joining the Middle Creek band program.
Drum Line tryouts—May 22nd, 7 to 9 pm
Color Guard tryouts - May 12 to 14 and 20 to 22 from 2:30 to 4:30 PM at the band room.
Biking with the Band – May 17th This is a combined fundraiser with the MS Society. There are 15, 30 and 65 mile routes. Bikes take off at 8 am. The bands will perform for the crowd and play at some of the rest stops. See the band website to sign up for the ride. If you are able to volunteer for this event, please contact Helena Mazzella at mmaddogmikey@aol.com.
